Power of the Mind

 Romans 12:1-2

1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

When I was growing up I watched the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) telethons on television and would hear them say that “A Mind is a terrible thing to waste” Many more have said this but UNCF is where I first heard it.  However, I didn’t understand it until I began to read the bible and studied scriptures such as the one above about being transformed and when Proverbs 23:7 says “so a man thinketh in his heart so is he” Scriptures such as these help me to understand my life will only go as far as my thinking will take me.  It is not my degree(s), my IQ, wealth, or anything else but it is what I think in my mind and believe in my heart that will determine my end result.  I may have some success in between, but will eventually end up in the reality of my mind.  Otherwise, if I l waste my mind I waste my life.  The mind is where everything starts in life.  We react to things based upon what we think to be true.  We carry ourselves based upon who we think we are whether it’s true or not.  At the end of the day we are all caught up in the reality of our own finite minds.  Some of us are even entrapped by what others have taught us to think and have no thoughts of our own.

While it is early in the year, I encourage each of you to look at your thought life and look at where you are in life.  Does your reality match your thought life?  If you don’t like where you are don’t leave the family, quit the job, and kick the cat. CHANGE YOUR THINKING!!!. I will say this again CHANGE YOUR THINKING!!!  The scripture above points out that change or transformation doesn’t take place until your mind is renewed. In this case renewed would be bringing it back to the state God intended it to be.

Lastly, you may ask how do I transform my mind?  Well, I’m glad you asked! Ask God first to reveal his thoughts about you through his Word(the Bible) so you can see a true picture of who you are in God.  When we know who we really are it will change the way we perceive others and treat others.  It is often hard to love our neighbor when we don’t love and accept ourselves.  Secondly, practice positive thinking and denounce negativity.  Thirdly, take ownership of your mind and watch what you allow to go in and out of it.  As I end this blog I pray each one of you are healthy in your mind and stinkin’ thinkin’ is a thing of the past.  Change your life by changing your mind.  ONLY YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

Let’s live abundantly!

  1. Wow, this is so poignant & on point! If we are to ever live up to what God has designed for us to do and become, a renewal of the mind must take place. Without changing the way we think, the way we feel & act will never change! Philippians 2:5 reads, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus…,” which simply means, we must strive to think, feel, & act like the Most High and bring every ungodly thought (even the “I can’t thoughts) into captivity. It is only w/a renewed mind in Christ can we say…”If God says I can have it, I can have; If God says I can do it, I can do it; if God says I can become it, I can become it!”

Thanks for posting this! I pray that we all adopt and function with the mind of Christ, so we can make a sustaining difference in our lives and in the lives of others!
